Smart Playlists (cont.) - Still no go
#1
Original post:

I changed the search to "any" from "all" as suggested and all the songs appeared in the Smart Playlist in iTunes but when I updated the iPod, the songs do not appear in the Smart Playlist there. It is still a blank screen.

I can't understand why Apple would not include the ability to allow the iPod to simply play all it's music in one shot without going through so many hassles.

I guess I am going to have to create one playlist with a couple of thousand songs in it to actually do this.

I use smart playlists extensively, including smart lists to filter other lists. So the feature certainly works. I still can't tell what you are doing wrong, or what you are trying to do. I am not sure the order that songs are listed if you filter a playlist with a playlist, if you have shuffle off; but at a glance they look to list the songs in order based the album (maybe the name of the band or the album determines which album is first).

I am not at home so I can't test this, but there is/was a bug in itunes for me that meant that the choice of all or any changes every time I edited a playlist, back to "all". So while you might have set that to "any" at first, if you edited the playlist again it might have switched back to all. I think this is a bug, it may have been fixed by now too actually in the latest version.

When you ipod mounts open it up in itunes so that you can see all the playlists and all the music currently on your ipod. Is there a warning on any of your playlists (a yellow exclamation point). Does the music for your playlist show up on the ipod there?

Thanks for the help. Not home either but I will try your suggestions tonight.

Basically, I just want to have the iPod to continue to play through all the playlists instead of it continually stopping at the end of a selected playlist when done.

it would be so easy if they had a "Play All" setting.

Select Artists, then All or Select Albums, then All does that, right? That would be everything on your ipod in order.

Atlhough I haven't done this specifically, I am sure that you can have a smart playlist that combines several other playlists to allow you to play all of the songs on those sublists. They would play in "order" (not sure what that order is or how it is determined) or by shuffle, depending on the setting for the ipod.

I don't think so. I have a lot of music with no Artist or Album listed. I will take a look.

Do you have the playlist selected in the iPod sync options when it is connected? This is assuming that you are not rocking the 160GB iPod Classic and therefore are transferring only a subset of your music collection.

Yes I do have it selected. I have an 8GB Nano, BTW.
