Looking for Instructions on Moving/Merging iTunes Library
#1
Gang,

I'm looking for a FAQ or basic instructions/best practices/ things to fear etc... for moving an iTunes Library. Technically maybe its more of a "merge" since I do have a few things in iTunes on the target computer.

The Library is about 12 GB. I've got an external hard drive to act as intermediary.

From: G4 Tower running 10.3
To: MacBook running 10.5

iTunes 7.7.1 on both machines.

I previously had an iPod Mini and now I have an iPhone if that makes any difference.

One note --- after an iTunes upgrade several upgrades ago, iTunes stopped giving me access to purchased items from the iTunes store -- it was only about 30 songs and I never got around to troubleshooting it.

Also -- I have a lot of Audible.com books -- just FYI if that adds to the complications.

Last item of note. I have about 30 home recordings and 10 movies in iTunes on my MacBook. I've also got iPhone Aps on the MacBook and my iPhone currently synchs to my MacBook. (Obviously the whole purpose of this endeavor is to get my music onto my iPhone).

As always, thanks for the help.

I dunno, I would just copy your music folder onto the other computer and add it to the existing library.

For the non-authorized song problem, try de-authorizing all computers (you can do this one a year) and then re-authorizing them.

I've moved the iTunes folder from the G4 onto the MacBook, following the instructions pointed to in this thread.

However, clicking on "Consolidate Library" does nothing. Yes, I have "Keep iTunes Library Organized" checked.

The iTunes Library I dragged over from a hard drive backup just sits there. None of its content shows up in when iTunes is open.

Ideas?

Thanks,
