Lenovo Vista machine is okay
#1
I'm surprised how much I actually like vista running on the lenovo from tigerdirect. I got it on sale for $299 with 2 gigs ram. It runs rather smoothly and has several prompts when items are trying to install.

I guess MS is trying to address virus protection in this version of the OS. Of course, this machine is for the wife who actually wanted a windows machine.

Just to drop a note on her windows machine...the live desktop gadgets are interesting, with a live clock. I'm trying to find a calendar that I know is safe to install on this machine...hard to tell if installing something will lead to malware. Wish MS had a calendar gadget...

Ah...back on my mac. Installing OpenOffice on her machine now.

AVG antivirus is installed...wish they had a donation ware version. I really hate the fact that their software is 1 or 2 year subscription costs. I wish they'd let me just donate what I think it's worth (about $30)...and they should support that version for a little longer than a year for $55.

At any rate, it's a dual core celeron 1200 that runs rather nicely for $300...

Now I'm on my pismo. I think it's amazing that a 1999 computer still runs well in 2008. That's over 9 yrs of usability. Of course I wouldn't do a lot of picture editing with this Pismo, but it's still able to surf the web with speed and style. It's a great computer.

AVG is free, unless you're using it for commercial use.

Ztirffritz,

I know, but I wanted to donate some $$$ for a nice piece of software. It's really too bad they dont make it donation ware.
