I can't imagine a liberal newspaper surviving in Salt Lake City. I think Utah is the reddest state in the union. I was also shocked to see this endorsement.

Powell's endorsement is a part of a virtual landslide of endorsements for Obama. I happen to think it is a significant one. Powell has worked with a number of presidents from both parties, so I think he has a pretty good idea of what is required for the job. Bringing up the fiasco of the run-up to the Iraqi war isn't really totally fair, since he is only one of a LOT of people who sold themselves out during that period. It doesn't change what a long and illustrious career he has had.
