I didn't vote for McCain, but every single person I know who is voting for him is a one issue voter- taxes. With two exceptions, they are all business owners or very affluent worker bees.

Isn't it really the case that the president doesn't get to set the taxes anyway. The tax cuts under Bush are set to expire, and if McCain becomes president and the democrats continue to control the other two branches of the government, what would his chances be of extending the tax cuts.
How one votes before making campaign promises is more telling:

I feel like I'm over responding in this thread but overall it's been a good discussion.
billb, I agree it has been a dirty campaign. I do not think Obama is going to raise taxes on people making $32k/yr or whatever the very low figure is. He has been clear about raising taxes on higher incomes though. I've seen $250k quoted the most although some articles claim it is between $150-180k when you get into the fine print of his proposals.

I live in a staunchly Republican area, an area where there is a high percentage of Reformed Christian churches as well as Baptist and a few mini-megachurches. Talking to a few people at work, they mentioned that they are voting by what their biblical upbringing, their biblical conscience tells them. One of them even told me, "you know, after all, America was founded on Christian principles."

I'm in the group that will see their taxes go up with Obama's plan. However, I still think he is the better candidate for the country overall, though not for me specifically. I feel I trust him more than McCain. I guess I'm just being altruistic with my vote.
I did vote for McCain in the 2000 primary, but he is clearly a different person now with a different agenda. And, him picking Palin just sewed up my decision.

John McCain would raise taxes.
He just won't TELL you he'd raise taxes.
Just like Bush came in saying he'd be the "compassionate conservative," and didn't follow through on any of that.
He's a more pragmatic man than Bush, though, so I would welcome his presidency as a "change" from Bush, if he wins.
There's no way we could continue to run the country the way we have the last eight years and not expect somehow for the excesses to be paid for. I do my f$^%ing part. I expect those who benefit far more than me to do the same.

I am a obama voter and I still have questions about his tax plan and their impact on small businessness. However, the concept of Palin as president sends shivers down my spine. For that reason alone, I cannot understand why anybody would vote for him.
We've had a religious zealot in the white house for the last 8 years...god help us if we end up with another one..
oh, and if the 2000 McCain was the one running right now, I would have given him more serious consideration...what a sell-out..
