Keyboarding, at least, in Safari has crawled to a halt. Even backspacing is torturous.

I'm having that problem in MS Word with my MacBook, even with 2GB of RAM.

What does Activity Monitor say is happening?

It's in Hard Drive -> Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor

Maybe something is totally killing the computer, and you simply don't know about it?

Try quitting Safari and relaunching it.

Or empty the browser cache.

Most of the time, that's from cached JavaScript screwing it up.
