[quote $tevie]It is funny that it can install it and never tell me. I thought OS X required permission to install anything. Bizarre.
It also doesn't explain why the Dell can play it when all the Dell got was the .avi file via email, just as Gutie did. That would mean that Windows really is better at this stuff... It does require permission, but since you were sitting at console (the keyboard) that implies permission. In computer security, all bets are off when someone is physically at the computer. Also, you probably run your Mac in administrator, a big no-no at the workplace. I almost agree with you on the Windows part. Apple actually goes out of its way to shut out other video file formats. Since the introduction of h.264, Apple has tried to push DivX out of the way, in fact a couple of QT updates actually went out of its way to cripple DivX. I have found that the DivX file format compresses faster and smaller, looks better on playback (looks great on AppleTV) than h.264. I just wish Apple would fix QuickTime instead of throwing resources at the iPhone. BGnR

I just got a mac.... I downloaded perian because it seemed the easiest rather than downloading all the other codecs...but the video still doesn't play. I can hear some sounds, but it's still blank. What do you guys think is going on, and what can i do to fix it? I've been so used to PC... thanks!
