PCI card question
#1
I'm setting up my old 733 G4 for my brother, and he doesn't have access to an ethernet connection where this computer will be going. I have a Belkin Wireless G PCI card that I bought a long time ago for this machine. I used this card in this machine a few years ago, but have since taken it out and used it in the POS Windows box my brother was using. Anyway, now I put the PCI card in the G4, and don't get anything. It doesn't show up in System Profiler, and there are no lights on the card (usually there is a light for it being on, and another for a connection).

I tried another PCI slot, same results. I know, the card could have just gone bad, but I was wondering if there were any other tricks to help the computer see the PCI card?

Thanks

Edit:

A dropped the card into the new MDD and it powers up, so it seems that it's the 733 G4. What could make it not recognize the card in ALL slots?

Edit #2....

Another interesting tidbit... when the computer is going to sleep or turning off, I do get a brief flash of the green light on the card, so it seems to only get power when the computer is going to sleep or turning off?

sometimes, on older machines, a PRAM reset helps recognize PCI cards.

hit the cuda reset button on the motherboard.

yeah, tried to reset the PRAM. Also did a safe boot, neither helped. Grrrrr.

Press the PMU reset button on the logic board once, it resets the power management circuit and is not cleared in a PRAM reset. It just takes pressing it once for a second or so, then reattach G4 to power and turn on.
