Cyborg Wife- 1 week mark
#1
Well, my lovely wife's weeklong trial with a neurostimulator is at and end. We went to the doctor yesterday and he slowly pulllllllled the electrodes out of her spine. (shivers) a weird sight to be sure- almost science fiction film quality, Those little wires were almost 10 inches up into her spine !

She misses it already, and the pain that was completely gone is now back. Next step is to wait for the surgical scheduling and get the final product implanted. I told her to hang on, and remember now that she has the certainty of being pain free once the surgery is completed.

But for now, it's back to the Vicodin. And being depressed. And in pain. And angry.

Is there a reason that they couldn't leave the external in place until the implant was done? It seems cruel to pull it when it was helping her so much.

When I've had stuff implanted in me, the primary concern is that of infection/rejection. Any foreign object can cause bad things.

rg- the risk of infection is too great. You do NOT want an infiltration path into your spinal column. She has, in fact, developed a mild infection, but oral antibiotics are taking care of it. Fortunately the infection was not meningeal, which is bad.

Ah, that makes sense. I hope the surgery can be scheduled quickly then.

Real, long lasting back pain sucks. There is no escaping it. To have the target of making it go away would make me a little less angry. Wish her the best.
