Pismo problem
#1
Just tried to start up a Pismo for the first time in a month or so. I knew that the battery was totally gone when I last tried but it still was happy starting with the mains lead in but this time it won't do anything, no light, nothing. Does a totally and utterly (as opposed to just totally) dead battery prevent start-up even on mains power or should I be looking for something else?

PRAM battery?

Remove optical drive. Remove keyboard and main battery. Look for double-button cell battery toward the bottom right, gently unplug it from the motherboard. Try booting. If it does, then shut down and replug it in, then boot again, and reassemble everything.

Reset the power manager. Should be a small button on the back panel.

Tried that but nothing.

Couldn't see it. Can you give me a more detailed description please? Bottom right appears to be a little speaker I think.

vp, here's what the PRAM battery looks like... this should help in terms of locating it and seeing how to gently detach it from the mobo. Look toward the bottom right, near where the CD/DVD module would sit if it were in place.

... you don't actually need to remove it, just disconnect the little white connector from the mobo.

Haha...that's what I thought was a speaker! OK, disconnected it and tried to restart and....it did. Woooeeeee!

Now to shut down and reassemble...great, it works.

Thank you very much.

I can now admit that I had already opened it up to install a half GB RAM chip and I was worried I had done something wrong! I was 99% sure I had done it right and the chip, although cheap on eBay, did come from a Pismo. I had even put the original back in with no joy before I came here for help.

OK, so now all I'm waiting for is the replacement battery (in the post) and I will then be setting it up to provide music to my hifi.
