What's worse is that once upon a time I could read that without referencing a AT command list and tell if it made sense or was just a random string made to look like a modem initialization command.

My other mac is a 1st gen iBook, most web browsing on it these days (DSL & all) is a patience-building experience, approaching dial-up speeds.

My old G4 mini has a modem but I don't have a dialup plan. When my cable internet goes out I stop by the public library and use a computer there. I guess I should get a notebook/netbook one of these days so I could mooch off the library wireless rather than having sometimes to wait for a machine... hey how am I going to find books since they don't have a card catalog anymore?

Library I work at has not had a card catalog in about 20 years. They maintained it for a while after computerizing, but it was dropped in a cost savings move. Maintaining one is labor intensive, and in the case of a large collection, space intensive. They got back several thousand square feet of floor space.
