DVD region switching question.
#1
Is this correct?

The five changes of region codes for playing movies on a computer are set in the ROM of the optical drive not in the computer. So using an external drive for one region and the internal drive for another will not involve using up the region code changes of either drive.

Don't need to. . .set your computer so that DVD Player doesn't start up automatically when a dvd disc is inserted. . .

then download VLC. . .(FREE @ verstiontracker.com)

link to download VLC

When you play the movie, open through VLC and you won't have to worry about switching regions (I think you can set VLC as the default application to open dvd disc.)

OR

rip a copy of the DVD making it region FREE. . .(using MacTheRipper, dvdoneX-if necessary, Toast)

then play that disc on your computer

newton is correct.

There have been some apps/hacks that will make DVD drives region free, but now that you can use VLC, and that DVD drives get new versions so quickly, the hacks aren't as common (when you need a new hack for every new pioneer burner that gets released every 4-6 months, it gets to be a chore)
