Hi,
Looks like the wifey's Dull laptop has been bitten by the bug...keep on getting "Adult Friend Finder" pop-ups as well as "You have been infected by the blackworm virus" pop-ups, enticing you to click "Download" on a bogus anti-virus window that pops up.
I believe the Dull came with 30 days free MacAfee (sp?), which we never bought after the 30 days lapsed.
Anyway, should we just upgrade the pre-installed virus protection to the paid version or is there a better all-in-one anti-virus/spyware/pop-up package that is better?
Thanks!

Use Firefox and Thunderbird for your web browser and e-mail apps. McAfee is pretty unobtrusive for the most part and seems to do its job. Other than that, smart surfing and computing is the best you can do.

AVG antivirus, but before that do SpySweeper.
It'll clean it right up.

McAfee is a horror show. I've removed it from all my clients' computers.
AVG was good but it started missing some major virii so I pulled it as well.
Avast seems to be doing the best job now on that front.
Spybot and Ad-Aware are nice to add to your arsenal.
As the poster above suggeted, don't use IE. Try Firefox or even better Opera. Both are free now.
Don't forget to use the built in firewall or get ZoneAlarm. The free addition is pretty good.
NB: All the software I've mentioned has good free versions, so use them.
Good luck!

I was going to link to Terry Bollinger's site, but see that incognegro beat me to it. Lots of really good advice there.

Another Avast recommend ( although on all my office peecees I've not gotten any virii through the network )
I have used it to scan infected laptops ( and floppies/back-up media [laptops that never go online have to have gotten it somewhere] ) brought in and stpped using Norton's/AVG/MacAfee, too.
I run Spybot and AdAware on my office peecees too.
