resurrect a funky Nano?
#1
My wife ran my son's 3rd gen. Nano through a wash cycle a while ago. She bought him a new 4th gen. one to replace it, and I figured I'd see if I could bring his old one back to life. I'm charging it up as I write this. From what I can see it seems to be functioning okay, but it's difficult to tell because the big problem is that the display doesn't light up at all. If I look really really closely, I can see the menus and the wheel navigates through them, but it is obviously not going to be practical to use it like this.

Do you think there's any hope of it being resurrected? Any suggestions as to how to do it? At this point, I'd almost be willing to attempt surgery, since it's pretty much useless now. Or do you think it has some value as is? Should I eBay it and see what I can get? What do you think?

I'd probably try to take it apart, just out of curiosity, but that's me (and I don't like eBay). I doubt you will be able to fix the backlight.

The thing I'd worry about is corrosion ongoing. If you do take it apart give it a good airing out. It may still have some damp spots inside.

Lots of links if you Google "ipod 3g take apart". Do it if you want to for the challenge.

Good luck.

My daughter washed her 3g Nano. I told her: don't turn it on, don't plug it in, stand it up in a warm dry place...she ignored all of that and was without an ipod for 6months.
