car cleaning tip
#1
My Accord is filthy. Its just one of things that i said I would do almost every day but ended up not doing. That said, I just noticed the inside of the doors and trunk. Between the weather stripping and the edge (on the inside) they are black with mildew. I mean solid black. Whats the best way to clean that? I know a solution with bleach would work to kill it, but how much bleach? Is there a cleaner that would work better?

I'd use soap and water. I would NOT use bleach. Just get it all off and you should be fine. Keep it clean in the future. Get all of the dirt out of there, and there will be nothing for it to grow on.

or some of those cleaning wipes

Contrary to popular belief, bleach doesn't do much against mildew vs other common household cleaners.

Try scrubbing with a toothbrush using vinegar and baking soda.

And if the mold or mildew has gotten inside the car, replace the stripping.

I'd get recommendations for an auto detailer in your area. A detailer will have the chemicals, tools and experience to get that job done better and faster than you ever could.

And a detailer won't be as expensive as you think. Probabl a hundred bucks will make the inside of your car look great!

I second soap and water. I recently purchased a car that had been sitting outside for two years. Lots of blackish type mold/mildew buildup all around - under the hood, door jams, etc. Nice soapy water and a scrub brush got rid of it all!!

Good luck to you!

That's what I was thinking. The good detailers I know cost a few hundred bucks for a full detail. The cheaper ones often cause more harm than good. There was a top gear episode just on car washes and showed the technique used by some detailers causes more damage to paint than a junky drive through car wash with brushes.
