The silver lining of 'obsolescence'
#1
My beautiful 10 year old 32" Sony died about three months ago; the picture started blinking on and off every few seconds. The problem got progressively worse until it was blinking on and off literally every second. I google a quick fix (adjusting the voltage to one of the onboard circuits via a dial inside the case), but that only lasted about three weeks before the blinking came back.

So, off to Craig's List.

Yesterday I picked up a great little old school 27" Samsung. Tack sharp. Great color. Nice internal speakers. Very good selection of picture and sound adjustment features.

And I paid the princely sum of $25. The average price for that screen size was only $40-50, with the odd Craig's List Dreamer going as high as $150. There was even the occasional 'FREE! Just get this thing out of here!' ad. Go team obsolescence.

(I did camn near bust a gut moving the 200+ lb. Sony. I really need to start working out again. Tongue)

I won't lie. If I wasn't too cheap to pop for a hand truck to move the thing, i would have gone for a larger screen. 32" models were available in the same price range here too.

However, I am that cheap.

(And with any luck, this will only have to last me for a year at most, while I save up for my first flat screen. 42" should be just right for my pad.)
