Lunesta™ disclaimer
#1
Thankfully, I don't need it. I just saw a commercial for it and it seemed like the disclaimer was nearly as long as the spot. Is it really worth it? I was going to bold all the really disturbing side effects, but there'd be hardly anything left not boldface.

Walking, eating, driving or engaging in other activities while asleep without remembering it the next day have been reported. Other abnormal behaviors include aggressiveness, agitation, hallucinations and confusion. In depressed patients, worsening of depression including risk of suicide may occur. These risks may increase if you drink alcohol. Severe allergic reactions such as swelling of the tongue and throat occur rarely and may be fatal. Call your healthcare professional if you experience these or any effects or reactions that concern you. LUNESTA, like most sleep medicines, carries some risk of dependency. Side effects may include unpleasant taste, headache, morning drowsiness and dizziness.

I realize most all medications seem to have an unusually long list of disclaimers, but this one jumped out at me almost as much as the old "anal leakage" one for Olestra.

Is there another med to take to help you deal with the problems caused by taking Lunesta?

I like the increased risk of suicide warning. Guess THAT would fix the lack of sleep problem!

In a lot of these commercials the drugs sound dangerous.

Can someone tell me why prescription drugs are advertised on TV? Are the advertisers trying to get people to tell their doctors what drugs to prescribe to them? Aren't doctors suppose to be the expert, not the patient?

Exactly, they want you to ask the doctor to prescribe the latest, greatest and still under patent medicine they can sell you. Often more expensive than alternatives that will do just as good of a job if not better.

For a moment I thought this thread would be about a sock puppet from the other side.

If death occurs, discontinue use immediately and consult your physician.
