....new phones/plans due very soon....starting at $25 with unlimited......

All plans include UNLIMITED data, text, web, and email. The following prices indicate how many anytime minutes you get on TOP of the unlimited features mentioned:

-$25 = 300 anytime minutes
-$40 = 1200 anytime minutes
-$60 = Unlimited anytime minutes

You can add BIS/BES Blackberry service to ANY of these plans for an additional $10/month (making them $35, $50, and $70, respectively)

Virgin Mobile: New Beyond Talk Plans and New Phones This Month

....Following up on the reveal of the BlackBerry Curve 8530 for Virgin Mobile by RIM, new information has surfaced regarding it and new phones along with another plan realignment launching at the end of the month that factors in unlimited data and text for as low as $25 a month, firing a major shot across the bow of flat rate carriers...

With the new Beyond Talk plans, Virgin Mobile is now being positioned by Sprint as the premium prepaid data and messaging service, with plans starting at $25/month for unlimited text messaging email and data access with 300 minutes a month, $40/month increases the voice bucket to 1200 minutes and $60/month goes into unlimited flat rate access for voice, text messaging, and data access. In another challenge to MetroPCS and Cricket, the plans will also include all taxes and surcharges with no reconnection fees as is common with those and other flat-rate prepaid carriers....

To usher in the new plans, Virgin Mobile will introduce two new messaging and multimedia oriented phones to its lineup in the Kyocera Loft and LG Rumor Touch along with the aforementioned BlackBerry Curve. The Loft is a squared off bar phone with a QWERTY keyboard at $69.99, the LG Rumor Touch is identical to the recently released Sprint version for $149.99, while the Curve will be priced at $299.99.

The new plans and changes will go into effect by the end of the month, as the current slate of plans will be discontinued by May 22nd....

In the U.S., Virgin Mobile is just a licensed brand used by Sprint.

Sprint has been losing customers by the tens of thousands each month. They need to do something to bring people in.

The current Sprint "unlimited" plan is still $99, right?

Without a CDMA iPhone, I think they're going to have to drop prices on those contract-plans.

So, can you hack any of the phones offered to tether data to a laptop?

$25/month for 5GB of cellular would be pretty sweet (normally $60/month for an official laptop data plan from the major carriers)

I think Sprint's poor coverage is the main issue. I am pretty sure you could get tethering to work, but if you can't get signal, tethering isn't going to help you much. If Sprint has good coverage in your area, I would check out Howard Forums to find out how to get tethering setup and which phones to use.

Sprint's coverage is not poor. Their 3G data network coverage trumps both VZW and AT&T. Furthermore, VZW and Sprint roam on each other's networks. Their coverage sucked in the PCS days, but that was years ago.

Sprint has had a (deserved) terrible customer service reputation - they've worked hard to fix that.

They made some terrible decisions in the wake of the Nextel purchase, and have lost a lot of base, but still have 50 million customers, and are cash flow positive.
