Is there an equivalent to Handbrake...
#1
... that will convert from .mov to .avi?

I've tried doing this a few times now, in a few different ways, and I'm getting less-than-spectacular results-- compared to the results I got from Handbrake the other day, converting DVD to .avi, which came out great. My source .mov looks fine too, so I'm reasonably sure it's something in the conversion process, and not the source material.

Why do you need to get it into .Avi?

You can try ffmpegx, that's about as close as you'll get. I find AVI to be a very odd, VERY annoying format.

'chip, so that it will play on a DVP-642. The 642 will play DivX and XviD .avi's... it will also play .mpg's, but those tend to be pretty huge...

No idea. My guess is some DivX thingy.

I'm not a big .AVI user or DivX user because of complications.
