Anybody know about or use services like this?
http://www.quibids.com/landing/?v=1 A friend asked whether the site was legit or not and I'd never heard of the phenomenon.
This seems to indicate all's well:

but, a new 13" MBP for $66.34? Really?

It looks like yet another copycat of a selling scheme that started in Europe. They make their money on all the per-bid charges, and with the continuous resets of the end time for the auctions the bidding can be drawn out for quite a while. Prices of sales can be low initially, but once enough "marks" find the site they go up. It can be a long time before a person actually wins a series of bids for any particular item.
As for the second site, it looks to be a shill for quibids. It even says "Advertisement" right at the top. Remember the first rule of checking out possible "deals", "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't."

JoeH: Yea, I saw "Advertisement" at the top of site 2 as well. Your first set of comments makes sense. Just wondered if anybody had some truck w/ the auction. Thanks for the response.

if you don't win, you lose that money, the auction expire times keep getting extended. Not worth it.

The site says:
Penny Auctions have been featured in articles on...
It then goes on to list sources such as ABC, The Economist, etc. There are no links to the articles.
I bet that Clark Howard has talked about them too...

P.S. The shill ad for quibids is the only page accessible on the consumertipsdigets.org site as well. Examining the two sites registrations for addresses might be illuminating, but is more work than I want to do.
