Best place to sell custom maple AV rack?
#1
Making room to hook up Mac Mini to new HD LCD TV, replacing old CRT TV, which means old CD players and other components from old AV system are no longer needed since mini will take over... so, we removed the old custom made maple AV rack that is also no longer needed, and would like to sell it to somebody that will appreciate it. It was made by one of Hollywood's "in" custom furniture designer/manufacturers, who is an old friend, but in selling it, I can't advertise it's true provenance in order to maximize interest and potential sale price, or to in any way implicate my friend publicly. So where should I offer the piece up for sale to discriminating buyers? I was thinking maybe on some AV forums, where they would certainly recognize the form and function, but probably not the "designer label" aspect of the unit which would need to be disclosed in order to be recognized. I doubt local consignment or used furniture shops, or auction houses could fetch much without publicly naming names. I had it on CL without any real success. Where am I overlooking? Thanks,

Buzz

Why not call your friend who made it and see what he suggests?

Bixby- I was thinking along those lines, and AuidoKarma, etc., but most those types of forums seem much more geared toward gear than for nice racks to use it in or show it off. I haven't discovered the AV furniture groupie forum yet...

rz- That's kind of a double-edged sword; on the one hand, he'd probably buy it back for I paid for him to make it originally, at least he used to tease me about it for a few years afterwards. On the other hand, we have some other stuff he made, including some custom computer furniture, that we clearly discussed not disclosing his making it should we ever decide to sell it. He's done a lot of "regular" work for "regular" people over the years, but since he was "discovered", I think he'd like to keep his "designer" wares and his former "just paying the bills" wares as separate as possible. I wanted to at least test the waters before talking to him about it.

mikebw- PM me if you'd really like some pics, I didn't think it would be appropriate to just post them.
