So I want to print to my printers (3) in the garage -- wirelessly
#1
Ive got 3 printers in garage that are just too big to bring into my home office (HP 4MV, Xerox 7300 & Epson 5500) and its really impossible to run a cable out the garage from here.

I have an older buffalo W54 wireless router that does pass through -- is this essentially the same functionality as something like the Airport Express?

I have an ATT Uverse wireless router/DSL modem and it was an automatic setup, so Im not even sure that I can get into its configs?

How about powerline adapters? Do they work as advertised? Thats probably a $50 purchase...

Is there another option? Really trying not to break the bank.

I assume those printers have Ethernet interface. I am not sure what you mean "run a cable" but I think you mean network cable, not USB.

Anyway, if they have a network port, I suggest you install DD-WRT on a router and set it up as a bridge (I think), I did that with my printer, If I find my old post I will post the link here

EDIT: here is my post

http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1...msg-973245

and the link to instructions

It should work. Good luck!

Looks like the Epson is the smallest of the 3, no place to put it in the office at all?

Epson gets the least use. I already have a Canon AIO and Epson R1800 in the house (for CD printing)

Yes, they all have ethernet.

Assuming that your WiFi reaches the garage with a good signal, I agree with space-time that a WiFi bridge is the best solution. That will extend your existing LAN to the garage giving you Ethernet ports there that you can connect your printers to.

Im going to give my buffalo a shot.

The powerline option looks pretty simple, and I even see a 4 port model on ebay for pretty cheap.

plug and play is very appealing to me =)
