advice on new roof
#21
Nice house.

Good advice above (except for the little "slate" tangent.)

Don't forget to get your portico included in the estimate. Contractors have a way of leaving basic things out so that they're "extras" when you finally think about them. You'll want it to match the roof.

Why do you think it's time to replace it?

What is the advice on solar shingles? Are we there yet?

I would like to put a nice roof on the house - metal tiles, metal seamed, concrete tiles, etc.

But I assume the asphalt architectural shingle is WAY cheaper and will last long enough that I won't be there when they need to be replaced.

Woman at work got a roof with a 50 year warranty. Massive hail storm the following year turned it into a 1 year roof.

Received my first quote today for $8700 which includes all the items mentioned in this thread plus all new gutters. Very professional acting company owner and it turns out he went to high school with my parents. Two more quotes to go and then I'll make my decision. Thanks for all the advice.
