Is there a way to repair a small scratch on my otherwise perfect Powerbook case?

As mentioned, try some toothpaste. It can sometimes work extremely well on shallow scratches. Work on a very small area at a time, and frequently buff it off to check your progress -stand back from it once in a while, too, to make sure the polished spot isn't standing out from the rest.

Another thing the toothpaste does is get you to clean out the scratch; often just removing dirt from it helps the appearance. (And it will smell minty fresh!)

ps. the idea is to try to lessen it's visual impact, not necessarily making it disappear 100%

My suggestion is a speck case.

Hmm… check eBay? Thanks for that one Vic. Will do.

Speck case? I think they're pretty expensive, aren't they? Can't spend too much for a 9, 7 and a 3 year old. As Speedy mentioned…etc.

Psurfer, I'd be a bit leery of using toothpaste. Wouldn't it be likely that I'd create a discoloration on top of the scratch?

I do like the idea of some kind of overlay that would hide the scratch and, perhaps, protect the lid a bit.

The scratch is off-center in the left hand corner near the catch and most of the designs that I saw on Esty.com were centered and didn't cover the right area. I'll have to keep looking.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to share your thinking.

Now, where's that turkey? :villagers:

Here are some skins that will cover the whole top, and they are $5.55, shipped. They even come with wrist covers, too. Look in the middle of the page for more designs. These have the advantage of giving the whole top some protection. You might even let your granddaughter pick the one she likes best to "customize" the PowerBook for her. The size is 37cm x 27cm, so you may have to trim it to fit your machine. You didn't say what size it was.

No, the paste will mostly wipe off when dry, like car wax. That said, use white colored toothpaste.
I've successfully diminished minor scratches from a MBP that way, to the point where you had to be really looking for it to spot the scratch.
And the price is right.

Thanks Ken and btfc.

So far, the self-adhesive vinyl skins look like the best (and cheapest) solution.

The question is do I just get one and install it or do I let my granddaughter choose one from a selection that I email to her dad?

Let her choose. I have a daughter, and I know she would definitely have want to choose.
