Two Macs, same ISP, same network settings but waaay different Internet speeds
#1
I have two Macs: a mid 2007 MBP and a 2010 Mini. They both run OS 10.6.7 and I am using Chrome 11.0.x.

They access the Internet via a Airport Express connected to a Verizon DSL modem. Network settings are the same for both Macs.

I placed the two Macs side by side and tested Internet speeds on Speedtest.net.
This is the result for my MBP:

And here is the result for the Mini:

Sometimes the Mini times out and I can't even load a Web Page.

Can someone explain the disparity in speeds? I'm beginning to think that the Airport card in the Mini may be bad, or the AEXP may be flaky. I may have to drag the Mini into the basement to test it via Ethernet with the modem.

Maybe the Airport card is bad but it could also be the antenna wire inside the mini is disconnected or broken.

2010 Mini you can easily open up. If you can get to the Airport antenna, or it's connector on the motherboard, you can visually inspect them yourself to see what's going on.

It might simply be that the MBP used the server in Secaucus, NJ and the Mini used the server in New York, NY.
