Our sponsor's Data Doubler...
#1
For some reason this conjures to mind the good old days of Connectix.

http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/drive_bra...tadoubler/

This seems pretty cool although I think I've seen compatible items from Lenovo and the like that might do the trick (although no doubt with a MacBook/Pro the FIT and FINISH might be less than optimal without getting out a dremel.)

Still, I think this is great. I'd only like to see one additional feature... a stub cable with a switch that can be fed through the optical slot; the switch would let you deactivate the internal drive and instead activate the eSATA port that would be at the end of this stub cable!

That I would pay $100 for. Can it be done?

Even better but no doubt more expensive - put a port multiplier in this enclosure's logic so that you could use BOTH the internal and one or more eSATA devices. Yes, I know, fitting the cable through the optical bay slot would be the really tricky part... but I think it's doable.

I've though about crafting my own custom parts to do this but I just don't have the time or the soldering knowhow. Seems like if there's a market for the Doubler then the Data Doubler + should be able to capture some of it.

Whaddaya all think?

What MADMAN would buy this http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20W...SS9TOPTU2/ for $48, when Lite-On
and Samsung externals are going for that IN their enclosure, for between $10 and $20 less!?

.

Above is a refurb for $29 at BestBuy! http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+-+Fa...Id=2863599&id=1218358281725

Some of them also have LightScribe!

Well those cheaper models aren't slot-loading, are they? Some people like slot loading, I guess, and will pay premium to have their Apple drive still around.
