Did I screw up my Mac Mini mid-2011
#1
Followed the OWC video to swap out my i5 Mac Mini drive with a Seagate Momentus XT.
Followed everything exactly but somehow the IR board connector came off the logic board instead off the ribbon cable just coming out of the connector like in the video.

Got everything done and put back together. Of course, I couldn't do anything about the dangling IR board connector/cable. It seems to boot up okay and everything works right. I'm not planning to use the Mini as an HTPC with a remote control so no worries there, but what else have I screwed up and will find out won't work down the line?

If all you unplugged was the IR board and everything else works OK then I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Good luck.

I don't think my first post was clear. Apparently, I broke off the socket for the IR board. No way to attach it. Any suggestions. Does anyone know what else is affected by the IR board other that the remote and the power light?

One does not hear of many IR problems with minis, as it is not a function used very often. I would not worry about it if all else appears to be working as designed.
