Going old school-no electricity
#1
Just got home an hour and a half ago, only to be greeted by the lights flickering and then going out.

Sounds like it's affecting all of San Diego, into Orange County, Baja Mexico, Arizona, and New Mexico.

Thankfully, the emergency stockpile is all set to go(including the am radio for news), and I had the foresight to schedule an appointment with my Dr. this afternoon so that I'd be home in time to miss the mess that the roads have become.

They're saying to not expect power back possibly "late into tomorrow"
. At least the cellphone network is working, for now...

SDGuy this is B.S., Im on IID and I'm part of the outtage. My Inlaws are 15 miles away on Edison and they still have power.

One report says a guy working on equipment in Arizona caused the problem. How vunerable the grid is.

Everybody in San Diego got their power back by around 3 AM.

Kids have the day off from school, great day to hit the beach, except that pumping stations failed and have dumped millions of gallons of waste into bays and lagoons, so many beaches are closed.

"The outage was started after an Arizona Public Service utility employee performed a procedure on the North Gila-Hassayampa transmission line near Yuma, Ariz., that resulted in a major outage to Southern California. The San Onofre (nuclear energy) Generating Station also went offline. SDG&E officials said."
