Hitachi 3Tb Drive in a G5 XServe (ADM)? Anyone try it?
#1
Subject line pretty much asks the question..
I have a G5 XServe with full drives, and I want to replace a 160gb drive with a 3Tb to use as the backup drive in that module.

But I discovered that I couldn't make a WD Caviar Black 2tb drive work in the same server... (different drive bay... that one ended up getting a 1Tb WD Caviar Black that works fine).

So I wanted to see if anyone has been sucessful with a Hitachi 3tb BEFORE I order one this time!

They are very hit and miss as to what works and what doesn't. I haven't tried any 3TB drives.

I'm pretty sure the 2.2TB max limit per bay will apply so highly doubtful.

Thanks!

Sounds like maybe I won't try it unless I'm buying a 3tb drive for something else, and try it there first as a test.

Jamie;
Funny, that article says a 1Tb drive won't work in a G5 either... so I'm a little skeptical of getting the right answer out of Apple on the subject Wink

That's the better way to do it, use the 3TB elsewhere and test one out when you have it Smile

Yup...

I was trying to do a "roll down" upgrade...
My iMac needs a new hard drive... (it stopped mounting a couple weeks ago, thank god for backup clones and Time Machine!... and pepto bismol...).
I wanted to put a 3Tb in the server, put the 160 in an external case, and put the 1tb in the external case in my iMac...

So now I have to come up with another plan... Hmm.....

2TB drives have worked fine for me, but not the Hitachi.
