Definitive thread on why the SX40 is so freaking cool...
#1
While the form factor is virtually identical to its SX30 predecessor, the "zoom assist" button is ever so slightly recessed on the SX40.
Actually, it appears as though they added a micro-thick
lip around it to create/enhance the recess effect... that keeps your right thumb from inadvertently engaging the button's sensitive force field. After a year w/ the SX30, just when I was finally getting the hang of keeping the thumb away from the magic button, it turns out Canon fixed the biggest annoyance w/ the release of the SX40 rev. All the rest of the great stuff people have been talking about around here is window dressing; abating the accidental button activation is the real deal. The button on the SX30 sticks out like a sore thumb(tu), and if you even look at it, or think about it, in the wrong way, it triggers the Mazda "zoom-zoom" effect... w/ the SX40 it thankfully now at least takes a minimally provocative effort to engage the button w/ more than a glance or thought.

So there you have it.
Taming the Mazda effect makes the SX40 the embodiment of awesomeness that y'all are flocking to.
Cool

Those buttons were really easily pressed by mistake on my SX10 also. I like the raised ring around them on the SX40.
