Macbook Pro woes - ideas on what the problem is?

It was 3rd party ram - gonna call the place tomorrow to see about a replacement.

Did you have two sticks, or one? If two, did you isolate it down to a single bad stick? Very unlikely that two failed at the same time.

Also, do you still have the original Apple RAM, have you verified that the problems go away when using just the Apple RAM?

I had 2. Since I took it to the Apple Store, I let the genius figure it out (which he did). He gave me the bad stick in a nice little anti-static bag & said he could sell me a new one or I could find one online for less $.

I'm running on my remaining stick - all is well.

RAM can and does "go bad" When a sector fails, it doesn't set an alert the way a HD does. If the failed sector is in a critical location, you're screwed.


jimmypoo, I don't know if they'd still be available but, I remember having a 120GB HD in my Pismo. There might have even been higher capacity HDs available.


I still think very fondly of my Pismo. :boink:

Obviously my bad RAM became really cranky on Saturday!
