I tried this hack once on a A70, I remember the CHDK was loaded on the SD card and of course there is a little less space left for pictures, but the CHDK was pretty small. Once you removed the SD card, the camera reverted back to the original firmware. it's like booting a computer from an external hard drive.

As programs like Aperture support RAW files on a camera by camera basis, not sure how a hacked camera would show up..

The CHDK site links to a downloadable converter for the RAW files. Graphic Converter may be able to read them directly.
