More bank stuff
#1
As a semi-interesting follow-up to this thread, yesterday I received something in the mail from my "new" bank. It was a handwritten note stating:
--------
Dear Mr. (my name),
On behalf of (name of local bank), I'd like to thank you for opening your new checking account with us. We pride ourselves on offering responsive, competent, and excellent customer service. If I can be of assistance to you for any of your future banking needs, please feel free to stop in or give me a call.

Thank you again for choosing (name of local bank).
(her name)
Customer Service Representative

---------

Yeah, yeah, I realize it's probably just part of her job to send these out, but the fact that this was a handwritten note just made me feel that I made the right choice when deciding where to move my (meager) funds. And I'll keep them there...at least until they too start charging fees and I have no other options.

At least the money they may get out of you stays in the community.
I have been using a local bank all my life. My present bank had bumper stickers made out during the bank crisis a couple years ago that read "Don't blame me, I bank locally."

When i was unemployed for two years back in the nineties, this bank worked with me on my mortgage, adjusting my payments for a while so I could get thru that period without losing my house.

They will have my business for a long time.
