a killer app for the iPod....
#1
is not an app at all, but a kiosk. i have said as much in the past at the other place, but i would really like to have a kiosk at music stores where a purchased CD could be loaded up directly into the ipod in your dirty little mitts. you can immediately start enjoying what you have just purchased AND you have the physical CD in hand. i still buy only full CDs to have the better quality and the album art. plus, i just like the things. ;-)

if apple were to develop such a machine, i can see big revenue coming in from this, as they could charge a fee to load the ipod up right there, but also make iTunes available to throw some extra things on there while you are loading up that purchased CD, which would be more than tempting, no? and these kiosks could be everywhere - airports, bars, gyms...

I don't get it. What is so difficult about loading CD's on to iTunes on computer and then to iPod?

I remember a few years back there was a company who would rip all of your CDs and put them on an iPod for you. They swore that they didn't keep any copies of the songs for themselves. As I recall, they charged some ridiculous amount of money to do it. I wonder if they're still around.

Yeah, I believe they are but I can't remember their name. The idea kind of makes sense. If your time is always billable time, like mine and other freelancers, it may not be worth it to spend the equivalent of 2 weeks ripping your entire collection. Mind you, I don't have that many cds, but it was geared toward people who had something like hundreds of cds to process.

That would be a pretty good gig. Rip the CDs once and then when someone sends them in, just check to see if you have them and then load up the ipod in a few seconds/minutes and send it back with a big bill. Shoot! It's like free money.

This machine? I don't get it either; I can't imagine they will be in business long. Look for these on woot!

$249 to be able to skip the step of putting the music onto your computer!

Might as well buy a mini...
