I must be jaded. $450 PC laptops just bore me to death now. I remember about 10 years ago I bought a defective Canon laptop (yes, they use to make laptops) at a computer store going OOB sale for $300. I was thrilled even though the screen didn't work. Turns out it was still on warranty so they fixed it. It was just as productive with the screen working as with it not working. Sold it on eBay for $600. Those were the days.

And they sent out coupons as well for the three days -- 10% off digital cameras $200 or more, 15% off any printer in stock, $20 off $100 purchase in store.

Office Depot stores have been vanishing in NYC. Several locations in my general area went away within the past year.

Some of those computer deals look good but that's way too much money to hold up in rebates that may never come through.

I've been thinking about what is going to happen when Windows Vista finally comes out. Apparently it has pretty hefty hardware requirements, and I wonder if many of the current PCs on the market won't be able to run it.
If so, what is going to happen to prices on those PCs between now and then?
