I haven't kept up with the digital cameras. My daughter would like one for her birthday. Something that she can carry in her purse.
What is a nice point and shoot these days?

budget?
several on DM in the last few days in the $112-170 range that are nice -- we have the last generation of the $112 one, the powershot A410, built like a tank and decent photos, a touch slow
this looks cool for a Kodak (never been a fan of their cameras myself) -- $160
4mp, 3" screen and wireless

$170 will get you 5mp, 2" screen and no wireless

if you have more to spend there was the deal yesterday at newegg for the 7mp A620 with a 1 gig card -- great camera and even better deal
maybe that you could be your fathers day gift to yourself, and give her your old camnera =)

The elph seems to always be a hit with older and younger crowds that might like a tad bit more style than functionality.
The 450 should do the trick

Whatever you buy her, make sure you also buy a sturdy little hard case… little digicams get lots of abuse, especially in a 14 year-old's backpack or bag … bfd has personally seen more than one of these cameras with totally smashed screens - which pretty much makes it EOC time ("End of Camera") …

My 14 year old daughter picked out the Nikon CoolPix P2 ($200). For her, styling and a larger LCD screen were of priority. There's no viewfinder, you have to use the LCD, but she's one of those people who always uses the LCD anyway. It has a 17 preset scene modes and can take video.

Good advice. After my daughter's Nano got it's screen wrecked while in a special pocket in her backpack, I bought a little metal "Altoids-like" case to put it in while not in use.

Another vote for the Canon digital elph, though mine was run over by a mini van, the CF card and the battery survived and I still use them in another camera. Mine was in a soft leather case.
