Something that was real good coming out of the date would never have gotten through congress. If Obama hadn't accepted this illegitimate stepchild of Romneycare, created by republican think tanks, there would have been NOTHING, which would have been a continuing national disaster. Obamacare should have at the very least had a "public option" which could potentially have brought competition and cost control to the table. Perhaps that is a hope for the future. In the meantime, Obamacare is bringing an end to recision and to pre-existing condition exclusions, and is also bringing healthcare exchanges where individuals will be able to buy insurance at non-usurious rates. What would you have proposed that was both politically doable and also a strike against the worst practices of the insurance companies?

I agree with davester. Single Payer National Health Insurance (like other advanced nations have for their citizens) would stop this cruel and sneaky practice.

Read the original Times article.
The problem isn't paying for healthcare. The problem is that they're dithering because they're afraid of cutting into their illicit profits.
They're profitable because they're paying low wages to young kids and Mexican laborers.
Meanwhile, others in similar positions are saying that offering healthcare is not so expensive as it seems because the kinds of people they hire don't go for it due to the employee contribution portion being too large a bite out of each paycheck.
In other words, they're still free to game the system and make a bundle with the same simple lack of ethics.
