PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 3, 2013) – Based upon recently revealed information and a review of previously discovered issues, Rutgers has terminated the contract of Mike Rice.

“I am responsible for the decision to attempt a rehabilitation of Coach Rice,” said Rutgers Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tim Pernetti. “Dismissal and corrective action were debated in December and I thought it was in the best interest of everyone to rehabilitate, but I was wrong. Moving forward, I will work to regain the trust of the Rutgers community.”

In case you have't seen the video

I think it was youtube that did him in. It was all over ESPN yesterday and to a man commentator's were calling for his firing. The AD should go as well. He was told of this behavior by the recruitment coordinator a year ago and he instead fired the coordinator.

Here's the ESPN video. Labron James jumped into the act by tweeting if it was his kid he'd be off the team but only after he gave the coach a whuppin'

Blech! http://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/rutger...hp?ref=fpb

Pernetti resigned last week after a video was made public showing former men’s basketball coach Mike Rice shoving players and berating them with anti-gay slurs. Pernetti suspended Rice last December. The coach was fired last week.

Under his agreement, Pernetti is to be paid his base salary of $453,000 per year through June 2014 and a one-time payment of $679,500 in the next month. He gets the money even if he takes another job.

He also gets his $12,000 per year car allowance through June 2014 and health insurance and pension payments through October 2015.

Pernetti also gets to keep his Rutgers-issued iPad and laptop computer.

Rutgers agreed to represent Pernetti in any lawsuits related to his job as athletic director.
