Yeah, the RT seemed to be a weird hybrid. I actually thought it must share the app store with Windows Phone, i.e. RT is to Windows Phone as iPad is to iPhone. Was shocked things didn't work that way. The iPad can run phone/iPod touch only apps, iPad only apps or universal apps that natively support both. RT, not so much?

What niche was Microsoft trying to hit with RT?

I can't say for certain that things (in this case useable software) will not improve for the RT. I'm assuming MS knows of this shortcoming. Time will tell but the clock just started ticking...
