With so many deers around here, how come I have never seen a wolf, of even heard about them? I have seen foxes and other animals, either crossing the road or running across a field, but never wolves. What is the Wolfe estimated population in Northe America?

What Speedy says. Plus if a wolf shows up in your back yard people will freak and start shooting rather than say, "How cute!".
The wolf population in MI (and cougars!) has been increasing and some folks want a limited hunting season the thin them.

Wolves are back on the govt hit list in Wy I think. Sorry but the govt says there are too many of them. I think they not shooting in NM or AZ. Haven't heard much lately but earlier this summer they were thinking or taking the Grey wolf off the endangered list.

6100. What's sad is, delisting the wolf means people will hunt them to preserve livestock. Meanwhile, 200 Americans are killed each year by deer. Why do we have 30 million deer? Because we killed off all their predators. But thank god we saved some sheep!

In NE Ohio, the main predators of deer are:
Disease and Starvation
Cars and trucks driven by humans
Hunting by humans
Coyotes
Coyotes can't take a healthy full grown adult, but they defintely steal off with a few fawns every year. Mostly they eat rodents and bunnies and the occasional opossum and racoon. And of course trash and the occasional household pet. We lost a cat to a suspected coyote one year, based on the bite marks on his brother's butt. Poor Ginger...
