Any Vectrex fans here?
#1
As those of you who've been around here for a while might have noted, I'm a big retro video game fan. I have a small collection of arcade games (unless you own a warehouse, that kind of collection HAS to be small) and built a full-sized MAME cabinet a few years back.

But I never had a Vectrex ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vectrex ), although I'd wanted one since they were announced waaay back in 1983. Except for one up on a shelf in the garage of a guy my family bought a puppy from about 20 years ago (still kicking myself for not asking him to sell it then), I'd never even laid eyes on one... until last week, when I finally broke down and picked one up off of eBay for a fairly reasonable price.

It's so cool. I love vector games, and having one that fits on a shelf is pretty awesome. Even better, the original IP holders released all the games to public domain years ago, so multicarts containing every game ever released for the system are (relatively) easy to find; I have one on the way.

Anybody else play around with one of these old beauties? (Yes, there are plenty of emulators, including a good one for iPad, but they don't come close to a real vector tube picture.)

I still have mine and drag it out occasionally. It had some good games. 'Spike and Molly' had voice emulation way back then. The color overlays were low tech but effective.

I always lusted over those in the toy store while I was shopping for my Atari stuff, but never acquired one. It's still one of those things I would like to pick up just because they were so compact and unique.

I loved playing it in the store while my mom shopped.
