So, just wondering: which blog site is best, and why?
1) Blogger
2) Typepad
3) Xanga
4) Squarespace
5) Other?

I prefer #3. It's very intuitive. I hate blogger with a passion. It's usually blogged down and impossible to update during the day.

This is not actually true -- I update my blogger/blogspot blog all the time. No problems, thought their comment service does have the occasional outage. The true answer to your question, herbie, is "all of them." Each excels in a different way. Blogger I think is *fantastic* for easily setting up your first blog, but others like LiveJournal (ech) and some of the others you mentioned. If you're really serious about professionally blogging, you'll probably want to look at Moveable Type or something even more powerful. Makes Blogger look like a tricycle. You have to try them out and decide which best suits you.

Makes Blogger look like a tricycle. You have to try them out and decide which best suits you. But what blog is best for blogging about trycycle blogs?

Thanks blusubaru and chas_m. This is exactly the type of feedback I was hoping for. I've never needed a blog before, but I'm thinking about keeping a simple one for my business. I don't think it needs to be powerful, exactly...just reliable and friendly.
I guess I will just try a few of them out... Thanks again!

*Smack* I totally forgot about iWeb!
Whether you're a .Mac member or not (but WAY easier if you are), iWeb is hands-down, no-question the easiest, best-looking, low-maint blog method around. Rapidweaver's a distant second by comparison.

iWeb is good, except you can't get comments back. You can only post. But it looks much more professional. I just made one for a trip I did this summer around the country with truck drivers.
Chas, my bad experience with Blogger was all of last spring in a class. I've since found out that the software was running off of my professors server, so I withdraw my negative comment about Blogger. IMHO, it did seem backwards to me to set up as opposed to what I was used to with Xanga. I don't like the idea of having two different windows, one to edit and one to view. Again, may have been my particular situation. |
