I assume there would some 1st amendment argument that allows this and would make a ban difficult. The FDA could probably regulate claims in ads more carefully. It would also be nice not to allow or to limit the cost of advertising in the price of drugs for Medicare and for drugs in exchange plans.

Well, they banned tobacco ads on TV.
And have restricted ad content and direction away from kids too.

As a lot of traditional advertising (TV, print) falls victim to an increase in digital spending, there's a huge dollar-trail if you're willing to sell out and do pharma.

I say "sell out" only in a snobby ad-guy sense. It's no more or less noble than advertising Nike. But you'll win a lot fewer awards... and make a whole mess of money. Why would traditional advertising continue to attract pharma dollars while Procter & Gamble and Coke think they can invest more in digital/social instead?

If you think the idea of taking a drug that has a small chance of increasing your risk for heart attack or cancer is laughable, consider yourself very very lucky.

I take a drug that I call Fukitol.

It comes in 750 ml bottles and is aged in charred barrels for at least 2 years.

That must be the extra strength version.
