I'm glad we're getting storms from the Gulf of Alaska, and not El Nino storms

More good news for California! I'm glad we're getting these traditional storms, and not El Nino storms. We need snow in those mountains.

THE NEXT STORM SYSTEM FROM THE GULF OF ALASKA WILL DROP SOUTH INTO
NORCAL AS EARLY AS MONDAY NIGHT WITH COOLER TEMPERATURES, RAIN,
AND SNOW THROUGH EARLY THANKSGIVING DAY. UNCERTAINTY REMAINS THIS
FAR OUT BUT IT LOOKS LIKE THE HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION WILL FALL ON
TUESDAY WITH SHOWERS LINGERING ON WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. A FEW
THUNDERSTORMS WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE WEDNESDAY WHICH COULD IMPACT
LOCAL BURN SCARS. THIS STORM COULD BRING THE LOWEST SNOW LEVELS
OF THE SEASON SO FAR WITH HEAVY ACCUMULATIONS AT PASS LEVELS AND
LIGHT SNOW DOWN TO 2500 FEET. THANKSGIVING TRAVEL WILL BE IMPACTED
SO START PREPARING NOW!

Psh - all the Gulf of Alaska is giving us is this crap:

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ANCHORAGE HAS ISSUED A HIGH WIND
WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 9 PM AKST THIS
EVENING.
* LOCATION...ALONG TURNAGAIN ARM AND HIGHER ELEVATIONS.
* WIND...SOUTHEAST WIND 50 TO 65 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 80 MPH.
* TIMING...WINDS WILL INCREASE THROUGHOUT THE DAY TODAY WITH WINDS
PEAKING DURING THE AFTERNOON HOURS. WINDS WILL DIMINISH RAPIDLY
DURING THE EVENING HOURS.
A HIGH WIND WARNING MEANS A HAZARDOUS HIGH WIND EVENT IS EXPECTED
OR OCCURRING. PEOPLE ARE URGED TO SECURE LOOSE OBJECTS THAT COULD
BE BLOWN AROUND OR DAMAGED BY THE WIND.

And it's supposed to rain tomorrow, damnit. Rain is not very conducive of having a good snow layer.

Whitepass Ski Area in Washington recorded 115mph winds because of this storm. It was brutal. We had 50-70mph winds in Yakima for about 3-5 hours. The Yakima Fire Department responded to 40 calls for power pole fires, lines down and trees down.

I don't know if California should count on the cold lasting too long. The NW coast picked up 10 -40 inches of El Niño style rain in the last month and most of the time the snow levels were above 6,500 ft. That said, Echo and Donner passes can close any time there is precipitation and the temp in Sac drops below about 56 F.

You jest, but it happens. Perhaps my all-time favorite L.A. Times front page was a photo of a surfer crossing a snow-covered Malibu beach on his way to catching some tasty waves.
