New OWC Holiday catalog arrived today.......

I had the same exact feeling as when the Sears Wishbook arrived when I was 8! My toys today are a lot more expensive now!

It took a few tries (or maybe just a lot of moves), but apparently I'm finally off their list.

Much as I like the company, buy from them and recommend them, my need for paper catalogs is roughly on par with my need for 15,000 ton blocks of pig-iron.

I hate tossing catalogs straight into recycling.

I didn't know they had one.

B&H still sends me one. The only time I've had reason to look up a price in it the price was 'call'.

I haven't received an OWC catalog this year. Think I got one last year. Same address. I don't mind not getting one, but I always leaf through it when I get one.

While it has always been our intention not to send communications of any sort that we've been asked not to send, it was really only a couple years ago the technology implementations necessary to do that really well came into play despite what we thought was the case. We alway work to improve and never want to send something that someone doesn't want, doesn't make sense for us to do so. We also use all the reporting services in addition to direct requests.

Without debating the renewable tree/recycle aspects of paper catalog and recycled content there in... I'd also note on the 'green' aspect, I do not believe there anyone can claim to be on top of being as zero impact as OWC has worked to be and become over the last decade - even before it was 'fashionable'.

We continued that legacy with the addition of significant solar capacity (in addition to the 500kW wind turbine) to our Woodstock HQ that reached fully operational status just a few weeks ago:
http://blog.macsales.com/33987-solar-arr...odstock-il

Nationwide we have over 200 team members and about 60,000SF of office, warehouse, and manufacturing/assembly space. With our new Solar expansion - we now generate more power via our wind and solar capacities than we utilize across all of our operations.

Of other interest:
- each year, with more efficient servers, we've reduced our server farm power consumption.
- we have substantial recycling and a compost program that results in near zero going into the waste stream and a garbage pickup in Woodstock, where over 150 team members operate, roughly once a year.

There is lots of green washing out there - but everyone at OWC is and has every reason to be really proud of record we have. Our HQ Building, by design LEED Platinum and certified, is exceptionally energy efficient to an extreme as well.

Anyway - All good and understood with respect to those that do and don't like catalogs. We don't do them very often - but many we send to folks end up being passed around and hang around- and no doubt, one day - also won't be the case/needed. Smile
