iPad jailbreakers - possible to give an iPad a dynamic lock screen?
#1
I have a project idea, and am wondering if it can be accomplished by jailbreaking an iPad 1 (running iOS 6, I think). If not, I've got some other ideas for how this could work. But thought I'd check, since I already have this hardware.

What I want to do:

1. Input some information on a device (just a simple text-based list...maybe 10 items). Input device doesn't really matter---could be an iPhone, iPad, computer, etc.
2. Text is synced in some way to the internet.
3. Text is automatically displayed on a target device in a different location. Ideally, the text would be displayed without much interaction required from the person looking at the device (i.e. not requiring the user to login to email to access the text).

Other info:

-Both input and target devices will have always-on internet connections and access to a reliable power source.
-Text-based list to be synced will change daily

So, at least in my head, it seems like the target device should act much like a simple electronic billboard of sorts. I'm wondering if an iPad 1 could be setup to be that billboard. The screen does not need to stay active/on all the time. I had thought it might be nice for the iPad to automatically sync the information from whatever source it is being input on, and then have it ready to display on the lock screen if the home button were touched and screen activated/turned on. I suppose I could also setup a simple webpage that would auto refresh to show the current day's list. And that could be accessed by turning on the iPad, and clicking on a home screen icon shortcut to that URL. Just trying to make this easy for people on the "target" device who will need to see this list each morning.

Any thoughts here?

Not sure how this differs from texting the device...

It's not quite realtime, but if you store a TextEdit document in iCloud, it will auto-update the same document being displayed on another device.

Perhaps a teleprompting app, like Teleprompt + in the App Store? I know it can send from one iPad to the other, as I used it for several video shoots that used an iPad as the prompting screen and another as the controller. Would have to check compatibility with the oldest iPad though.

If this is to have some commercial/public application, texts would be tacky as hell.

Also, you can't edit the texts, so adding new information would cause other texts to scroll off screen. The number of texts clearly visible on the lock screen is limited, as are the physical size of them.

That might be acceptable in some in-house type uses, but would be wholly inelegant for a commercial purpose, if that's what Clay is going for.

Does this work from the lock screen?

It looks to me like Clay might want this to be a kiosk-like device that a passer-by or customer couldn't "tinker" with.
