Camera battery question
#11
Years ago, Apple had a trade in program for 5300 series PowerBooks because of the battery problems. I got a very good deal on a Pismo by trading in my 5300. I wonder if you could get a deal like that these days?

If they're carbon-zinc or alkaline, I'd definitely remove them if the camera isn't going to be used for a month or more.

Li-I battery packs could sit in a device unattended for a lot longer. But besides leaking, they can also swell, making them difficult to impossible to remove.

The Li-i battery in my black MacBook swelled to the point were it impaired the functionality of the trackpad and clicker. It didn't leak a bit. But it was easy to remove from the 'Book, unlike most if not all camera batteries.

FYI- if there's something in a device's circuitry that is always on for some reason, the batteries will leak much sooner. Also, I've had very bad luck with Duracell batteries leaking, and avoid them like the plague.

Your mileage, etc.

I'd agree with billb. If the battery has been removed, the possibility of damage due to battery leakage is eliminated. Just remember where you put the battery. I've started using zip lock bags to keep accessories together. You could have the battery in a small zip lock bag and then, place that bag and the camera (along with any other accessories), in a bigger zip lock bag. When a wall wart is involved, I include a 3x5 card with the specs and, the device that said wall wart is for. It would be nice if more companies labeled their wall warts but sadly, that seems to be a rare occurrence.

you are so efficient! good advice.

I use a silver Sharpie style paint pen to write what the walwart is for.

Just what I do with a white pen! Write on battery, charger and anything connected to the camera.

Thanks for the battery thoughts to all. I think I might leave the battery in one camera and out of the others.

Another silver Sharpie writer here. Wall warts, batteries, cases, remote controls, stands of flatscreen TVs that have been mounted to walls....
