More sad news from my area

That's horribble. If they do get caught, file a civil suit as well. Even if they have to pay over time, it will remind them of what they did.

I'm so sorry to hear of this, and couldn't agree more that the perps are just as dangerous to humans as they are animals. If they would break into a home and kill things they don't like, where's the line on that sort of mindset? Nowhere, that's where.

I'd start with questioning the neighbours. There's likely one that didn't approve of the choice of pets.

Ditto banzai and Racer. Jeffrey Dahmer started out killing animals in myriad cruel ways. Steph, I am so very sorry to hear of this. My thoughts and prayers are with these reptile aficionados and the survivors. Please report back when / if you hear more on this...or better yet pm me.

EVERYONE: let's all do something to show that this violent criminal behavior should not be tolerated. Donate a few dollars via the PP link in Steph's links above, for starters. More importantly: Are you sick and tired of reading about all these felons who get off scot-free? Do something TANGIBLE about it now. Contact the thought leaders and law enforcement authorities who can do the most -- the local papers and the Attorney General of NM.

When you do, make it a crime issue. This is nothing LESS than a violent crime issue; violent crime leads to more violent crime (name the Dahmer example above), and ALL types of it demand prosecution to the fullest extent of the law. Here you go:

journal@abqjournal.com

N.M. Attorney General -- call during business hours, or hell, leave a message if they have a voicemail; ask for Patricia Madrid (the AG) ask her to file felony animal abuse and killing endangered species charges in the Las Cruces case, and to prosecute these violent criminals to the FULLEST extent of the law:

OK, so just in that quote from the article, there were 8 dead. In Washington State, that would be 8 felony abuse counts. Just 3 would get them life in prison if the laws were upheld, and the sentences were applied as written.

Besides, when they got there, the inmates would take care of the abusers, I assure you.

"If this had happened to furry animals, the public outrage would be tremendous. But, because snakes aren't fuzzy, this hasn't had much news coverage."

this is just terrible! but I'm sure you're right...
