That's because most of the time, it never gets in front of a judge. And sentencing these days is a joke.

I'm 4 for 4 in getting pre-check this year without paying for it, so it doesn't seem random to me. Flying again next month, so we'll see what happens.

I am not sure I like the idea of a random lottery security free pass?

I have "Global Entry" and required the submission of documents, background check and an in person interview. While this still exposes some security risk, I would guess much less than just a random free pass.

Marty,

Agreed. A couple of years ago my wife and I traveled to and from San Fransisco and we didn't have TSA Pre Check. It took us an hour to get through security at JFK in NY. Since it took so long to get through security in NY, we allocated nearly three hours for dealing with airport agita, i.e. security, getting to the gate, etc. We still nearly missed the flight back to NY because it took over 2.5 hours to get through security. After that experience, I made sure we signed up for TSA Pre Check.

My wife, Baby M and I traveled to CA a month ago. With TSA Pre Check, we got through security in less than 15 minutes in NY. This included taking Baby M out of her car seat and letting security examine the baby gear we needed to bring onto the air craft. It took twenty minutes to get through security in San Fransisco because they did everything NY did as well as required one of us to submit to a pat down. The reason for the pat down was because we wouldn't let them open a bottle of formula.

Anyone who travels should sign up for TSA Pre Check. Even if you travel just once a year. It is _well_ worth the expense and the minimal amount of time you have to deal with when it comes to the appointment to get it done.

The interview process I went through was a joke.

However, Pre and Global Entry are well worth it for those that travel frequently.
