What's a good alternative to Audible.com?
#1
In June of 2015 they claimed I didn't have an account so I couldn't get a free trial. I contacted them multiple times and got the same answer. They also said I didn't even have an Amazon account. I gave up because obviously they were wrong.

Tried again today. Now they're saying I've had an account since 2002, and thus already used my free trial.

Our local and county libraries have pretty good, to amazing selections of audio offerings. Not sure what's offered up in your neck of the woods, but it might be worth checking out. Only issue here is lack of instant gratification, as popular stuff means sitting on the wait list until it's your turn. Many items are available for immediate check out, so it's just a matter of planning ahead for your listening queue. Whenever possible, I try to snag the electronic visual copy at the same time to read along (when not in the car, obviously), which helps reinforce retention of the important passages. Sometime if the book turns out be something I really want to keep for future reference, I'll end up buying it anyway.

Buzz, thanks. Just went through all the steps to try and do that, but to complete the registration, I have to visit a branch.

If you have an account - quit. Then you can join again using a different email and credit card.

Or you can change your membership level. I went to the Lite Listener membership on Audible. Cost is $15/year, you do not get any credits but can buy at member rates and participate in sales.

Oops..., I forgot about that until you brought it up. The local library was easy, but the county library was not terribly convenient, and their shared driveway was the sight of my worst ever bicycle accident about thirty years ago. Had flashback when I went to complete the signup, which may be why, in part, the in library registration slipped my mind.

Again, you will need a library card but https://www.overdrive.com/ supplies instant gratification once you are signed up. Be forewarned, some of the audiobooks are read by robots or whatever you'd call it, so if that bothers you, you will want to try to ascertain that ahead of time.
